A Fresh Welcome to Houndslake: Our Entrance Landscaping Project

If you’ve driven past the entrance at the corner of the bypass and Houndslake Drive recently, you’ve probably noticed something a little different—and a lot better.

One of the projects the Houndslake Neighborhood Association has been focused on this year is improving the appearance of our main entrance. It’s the first impression people get when they enter our neighborhood, and for a long time, it didn’t quite reflect the pride we have in our community.

We’re happy to say—that’s changed.

The project started with a full refresh of the area. The crew brought in two tons of topsoil to level and prepare the ground, creating a solid foundation for what came next. From there, they installed beautiful zoysia sod, giving the space a clean, finished look that immediately stands out.

Beyond the grass, attention was given to the details. The mulch around the entrance sign was carefully reshaped to give it a more polished appearance, and the excess mulch didn’t go to waste—it was used to enhance the azaleas that were planted along the fence last fall.

Like many improvement projects, this one came with its challenges. The irrigation system that once serviced the area had deteriorated over the years and is no longer functional. Keeping new sod alive without irrigation isn’t easy—but this is where the strength of our community really showed.

A special thank you goes to our neighbor, Eric Muhlbaier, who generously allowed us to run a hose and timer from his home to water the new sod. His willingness to step up made a big difference in ensuring the success of this project.

The result is something we can all be proud of—a clean, welcoming entrance that better represents Houndslake.

If you haven’t seen it yet, take a drive by and check it out. It’s a small change that makes a big impact, and it’s just one example of what we can accomplish when we work together.
